Budgeting vs. Calorie Counting
Budgeting is a lot like counting calories. Very few like to do either one. Both take time, and both are well worth the effort. And as humans we all think we “know” how much we spend on dining out eat month just like we “know” how much we eat each and every day.
The fact is though that you don’t “know” how much you spend or how much you eat, and studies have show that most people are off by 20% or more when it comes to counting calories. And this is exactly why you need to recalibrate yourself once in a while. Every few weeks you should very, very carefully count your calories for a few days. This is most valuable if you eat about the same things each week, because if you know how much of your favorite meals you should be eating (for say a 500 calorie meal) you can continue to use that information each and every time you eat the meal.
